Lab work is a major component of biology. We will spend about a third of our time in the lab. In order for you to learn as much as possible, it is important that you follow certain guidelines for everyday work in the lab. The following is a standard format that should be followed for every formal lab report.

FOR ALL LAB WORK:

1. All labs must be typed.

2. Put your name, your partner’s name, date, period, and tracking number in    the top right corner.

3. Title each lab at the top.

4. State the Purpose of the lab. Why are you about to do this lab? Stating    the purpose requires that you read the lab before you begin.

5. Materials and Procedures can be restated or it is acceptable to simply    write, "Refer to lab handout".

6. Data and Observations can include:

a. charts- can be done on a separate sheet, but use a ruler.
b. diagrams- see "Drawings" on page 7 of the lab section.
c. questions- answer the questions in complete sentences. Make    sure you reflect the meaning of the question in your answer.
7. The Conclusion is where you state what you learned from the lab exercise.    It should be done in paragraph form. The conclusion is a very important    part that let’s me know how much you understand.

8. Labs are to be turned in by order of tracking number.

9. Late labs will be accepted with a deduction of a letter grade for each day    late.

10. Incomplete labs will NOT be accepted.
