Stream Bank Restoration Project
March 31, 2000

Biology Club

The South Branch of the Rahway River watershed is typical of many streams in the developed parts of northeastern and central New Jersey. The watershed is predominantly developed and the character of the stream corridor has changed as a result. The stream has a low base flow condition and flows are substantially increased following storm events. The scouring effect of storm flows produces severe stream bank erosion, sedimentation of the streambed, and the natural aquatic habitiat has been disrupted and homes and businesses in the flood plain are frequently flooded. In addition, the intensification of human activities within the watershed has resulted in water pollution.
